Frequently Asked Questions

COVID-19 Protocols

Given the changes with COVID 19 I will see clients in-person after a screening form has been filled out on the day of the sessions. Strict cleaning protocols are in place for the clinic space, as well as the waiting room. It is mandatory to wear masks while indoors, which includes the clinic space. I am more than happy to respect whatever level of protocol make you most comfortable. It is your choice whether you would like us both to wear a mask or for neither of us to do so. Just let me know and I will follow your lead.

At an point in time your in-person session might be changed to a virtual session if I, or anyone I have been in contact with is ill, or if you are ill or you have been in contact with anyone who is ill.

If this is the case I will change the appointment and email or call you to arrange for an alternate medium of connecting ( FaceTime, Zoom, telephone).

Do you work on a sliding scale

Given these challenging times, I at times can offer a reduced rate if your insurance coverage, your employment or your financial situation has been affected by the pandemic. First and foremost, I am here to help!

How do I get started?

You are welcome to book a New Client appointment through the contact page. If you have any questions about booking, fees, availability or COVID protocols, please email me at therapy@nicolafortin.com and I will respond to you as soon as possible.

Will my benefit package or insurance cover the cost?

I am a Registered Psychologist with the College of Alberta Psychologists and have a registration number which most insurance companies will recognize this as a qualified health care practitioner.  Contact your insurance provider to determine how much they will cover.

What is the fee per session and how do I pay?

As of December 1st 2023 I now charge $225 for a 60 minute in person session. I do work on a sliding scale so let me know if finances are a barrier to accessing treatment. I charge 325$ for a 90 minute session.

Also available is a virtual session through Google meets or telephone session for 225$ as an alternative to in-person.

I ask for payment at the beginning of each session in order to be able to move quickly past administration.

I accept e-transfer, check or cash. A receipt which you can claim will be emailed to the email you have provided through your online profile.

How does the free 10 minute telephone consultation work?

I will give you a call at your convenience once you provide me with your phone number and we can go over your goals, reasons and rational for engaging in therapy at this time. You can also ask me questions about what my approach to your issues might include and you can determine if we are a good fit for working together.

Where are you located and do you do skype or facetime?

As of December 1st, 2023 I am newly located at 1205 Bow Valley Trail in the RUNDLE PHYSIO clinic ( when you enter the clinic turn right towards a door down the hallway ) on the 2nd Floor in Canmore.

I also offer Google meets, telephone or FaceTime sessions to Alberta residents.

How long does each session last?

Each session is 55-60 minutes. I book my sessions back to back therefore will do my best to honour our time together and respect the upcoming client waiting by being mindful of ending on time. This means that at times I may run late depending on the bookings that day.

What happens if I can't make a session?

I ask for at least 24 hours notice for cancellation. If you are not able to give this amount of notice a cancellation fee ( the cost of your session ) will be charged to you. I do understand that there are circumstances that are out of your control, and we can discuss this as it arises.
